Course Description:
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
Who should attend?
Anyone can take the 8-hour Mental Health First Aid course – including first aid responders, teachers, leaders of faith communities, service providers, and caring citizens. This course is not intended for trained mental health providers.
Someone you know could be experiencing a mental illness or crisis. You can help them.
You are more likely to encounter someone – a friend, family member, co-worker, neighbor, or member of the community – in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Mental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to people with signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care.
